We are proud to share that Bèta in Bestuur & Beleid (BiBB) has been featured in Europhysics News (Volume 57, Issue 2, 2026), the magazine of the European Physical Society.

In the article, "BiBB: Bringing STEM Expertise into the Heart of Governance," Patrick Decowski, Arlette Werner, and Liedewij Laan describe how BiBB inspires STEM graduates and technically trained professionals to explore careers in public administration, policy, and politics. The publication highlights the BiBB Career Day, the BiBB Summer School, and the growing BiBB Alumni Network as initiatives that help bridge the gap between science and public decision-making.

It has been five inspiring and intensive days during which 30 PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career professionals with STEM and technical backgrounds explored the world of governance, public policy, and societal impact.

​

Hosted at Parc Spelderholt, we continued building a growing community of future leaders and policymakers with STEM expertise. It is a truly unique venue where education, social impact, and nature come together.

​

Throughout the week, participants engaged with senior civil servants, politicians, public leaders, scientists, and policymakers. They shared not only their knowledge and experience, but also the dilemmas, challenges, and lessons they have encountered throughout their careers.

From science to politics, from ministries to universities, and from digitalisation and healthcare to climate and national security, participants gained a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on public governance and policymaking.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants for your curiosity, thoughtful questions, open-mindedness, and enthusiasm. Your engagement made this year's Summer School a great success.

The 5th edition of the Bèta in Bestuur & Beleid (BiBB) Career Day will take place on 25 November 2026. This year, we will gather at Sociëteit De Witte in The Hague.

During this event, we will explore how STEM professionals can contribute to public administration, policymaking, and politics. Major societal challenges—from climate and energy to digitalisation, healthcare, and national security—require people who can understand complex systems and translate scientific and technical knowledge into effective public policy.

The Career Day offers practical insights to help you explore your next career step in governance, public policy, or politics. The programme features inspiring keynote lectures, interactive workshops, a career fair, and plenty of opportunities to network with professionals from government, academia, and the public sector.
